Holiday Celebration

Holiday Celebration

This is the time to celebrate family and friends, traditions tiny and grand, a time to pull out all the stops and to pop all the corks. It’s exactly the right time for over-the-top, you-really-shouldn’t-have-but-we’re-so-glad-you-did, inspiring meals. Each one ladled with a tureen’s worth of memories to span the generations. Will there be a roast? Oh yes, there will be a roast—one the nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles will all recall as being the most delicious they’d ever eaten. We won’t presume to tell you how or what to celebrate, we just hope you will in whatever way is most meaningful to you.

1. Mishima Reserve Bone-in Standing Rib Roast

A Mishima Reserve Standing Rib Roast is a veritable monument to decadence. And when one of your clan stands to ceremoniously carve this marvel, they’ll both beam and be humbled by the honor bestowed. Along with our Rib Eye Roast, these are the very finest cuts of meat we offer. Roasted to perfection, their tenderness and rich, juicy flavor will give your guests pause. Literally, you will see them pause and contemplate the wondrous pleasure being rendered on their tongues.

In fact, a roast of this caliber is actually a shortcut – a holiday hack, if you will – to pulling off a momentous holiday meal with aplomb. All you have to do is cook the roast until it reaches the proper temperature. That’s the beauty of starting with the best possible ingredients: it ensures the best possible results.

2. Caramelized Fennel and Mushroom Soup

Winter, and holiday in particular, is an opportunity to indulge our love of hot and savory soups. Whether it’s squash, potato puree, or our favorite roasted fennel and mushroom, a soup course is the perfect on-ramp to a multi-course meal. It commands thoughtful attention while whetting the appetite for what’s to come.

3. Pan Seared Broccoli

We love the creativity that comes with choosing side dishes to complement the main course. Seasonality certainly comes into play, not to mention surprising a favorite aunt with her favorite vegetable, whatever it may be. This particular menu emphasizes the earthy richness of the season, but feel free to include your own family favorites.

4. Roasted Root Vegetables

So you can spend as much time as you want with your guests, include dishes and preparation techniques that can be handled in advance. This platter of roasted root vegetables is one such trick. You can peel and chop the day before and then roast them right along with the meat – in same pan or on their own. After all, these things grew in the dirt, so you can’t really hurt them!

5. Sazerac

Celebrate the holidays with America’s “first cocktail,” stirred into existence in New Orleans in the 19th century. In this age of craft cocktails, our classic preparation, with its absinthe rinse, will be greatly appreciated by all.

6. La Jota Howell Mountain, CA Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon

The shallow soil, volcanic ash and rock of Howell Mountain yield grapes of distinctive Northern California terroir.  Our Master Sommelier chose this wine for its assertive presence on the palate, with hints of chocolate, pepper and spice.
